Do the new Galaxy S7 support the latest 15w Qi wireless power standard?

The two new phones support both Qi and PMA wireless charging, the reps told me, and they also offer “wireless fast charging.” But nobody knew if the Galaxy S7 support the Wireless Power Consortium’s (WPC) latest specification, which was announced last June and allows for a maximum of 15w wireless charging.

“If the charger detects that the device supports fast charging … the output will be 15 watts,” according to the company.

So the new Galaxy S7 apparently do support the latest 15w Qi wireless power specification. However, you still need to use a wireless charger that also supports 15w to get the fastest possible charge. Samsung announced a new Fast Charge Wireless Charging Stand, but it doesn’t appear to support 15w charging. The product page says the “new wireless charging stand allows you to charge your compatible Galaxy device up to 1.4x faster than standard wireless charging transmitters.” The new charge pad appears to be a slightly modified version another Samsung wireless charger that was released in August, which support wireless power up to about 7w.

In other words, the new Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge reportedly support 15w Qi wireless charging, but Samsung’s wireless charging pads apparently do not. So you’ll have to buy another 15w wireless charger, such as Incipio’s $70 Ghost charge pad, if you want to get the faster wireless charge possible.
